  1. Good to see you ok. My GF there was working in Cebu City Capital Building when the quake hit and had a week off. So she went home to care for some things and found the large tree next to Hipa hut (1 room) needed to be cut down before it fell. She said her knee’s were shaking for 2 days after the quake but she and her children are fine. Just keep doing what your doing, it is a big help and i may need it when i get there with visa rules and laws if your able but only if no problem for you.

  2. I know what you mean, and word-for-word I’ve also told so many people, “I love the PH, but it’s not for everyone.” Also, I’m not here to fix anything or be a savior.. I’m just looking for a simple, happy life. With a wife, eventually. But not in any hurry on that just yet.

  3. I’m learning little by little. My last Filipina g/f spoke very good English so, I didn’t learn too much. The girl I’m “seeing” right now (not my g/f ‘yet’) is teaching more Visayan as we go along.

  4. Honestly, I only remember being hot the first few months I was here, adjusting to the climate, in the city. Here on a more tropical island it’s excellent weather, even all through the night. Always warm and ‘balmy’.. only once in a while kinda hot, but not by much. To me anyway. I like it better than the dry, SoCal weather.

  5. I thank you for your postings. I realize that the comments you make are your own but I agree with you on almost all of them. I am going to retire in two years and share my life with my asawa in Machtan Island (Lapu-Lapu City). I also am a US citizen with a heart for the Philippines.

  6. I love your channel because you give the most realistic image of what its like to be an American in the Philippines. Have you ever thought of moving to another ‘cheaper’ country, like Ecuador or Taiwan or Costa Rica? There are expats with channels in those places, but they don’t give the in-depth experience of what its like, like you do. Also I like you better

  7. I get some straight news via online outlets and yes, it’s going to hell in a handbasket there. It really worries me for my 3 sons and one daughter (all adults) who have to deal with the lame economy and policies. 🙁

  8. I spent 9 months on Mactan and will visit in a few weeks since I made friends there. It’s convenient to Cebu but without ‘as much’ of the big city to deal with. 🙂

  9. I enjoy your channel Henry and also the other one that you have. You have an intelligent, easy manner and that is enjoyable for your viewers. You are not disrespectful about the Philippines or its people. You write well and focus on topics that are interesting to us. Please keep doing your thing. I wish you well.

  10. I salute you. You did a wonderful and amazingly beautiful video journalism. From you, people like me learn something new. A desolete island that I once knew. Is now a progressing island. Your sitting on a recliner beach chair. Life is not simple in Bohol but a lay back life. Next time I want a video of you on a hammock drinking a pinacolada. LOL. Don’t push it thou, it will make us jealous. A suggestion on handling a cam. Try tying or putting the cam on a pole. This will lessen the arm stress.

  11. mostly, i am just wanting to know how you got to be so good at pilipino. it is really hard to to learn. everyone i talk to doesn’t seem to know how the verbs work, including akong pinay. any help on that? i am having a hard time, and my pinay says it is best i know some before i go

  12. Thanks, I hope to expand into more islands after December.. lots of new adventures to be had. I’m also working out some resort tours to give an idea of prices, accommodations, etc. at different locales. But you’ll still find me in the gritty streets and market places.. I love the action there. 🙂

  13. Thailand and Cambodia might catch my eye.. but I’m having such a blast here in the PH. I’ll visit there eventually though. Some enjoy Costa Rica and Brazil as well. Me, I’m kinda burned out on Latin countries after spending so much time in and out of Mexico for 12 years.

  14. I do want to visit, but not stay in other places like Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia.. possibly Singapore but it’s kinda last on my list. (high cost there) I feel very much at home in the PH. It’s a nutty place sometimes, but it’s a great place too.

  15. I still can’t assemble a sentence in Tagalog or Visayan yet. ha! I only know phrases like ‘good evening, afternoon, morning’, ‘lamesa’, ‘komesta’, ‘salamat’ and a few other random words. It’s been a challenge, learning Spanish only took me about 3-6 months to at least be conversant.

  16. Reekay,
My name is James (“Jimmy or Ice for short”). I am proud to say that I really your quite refreshing and not long ever to be bored. Never thought that thinking out would be so interesting! I  can really who you are and who you are not! (LOL) Hehehehe.

  17. I think you strike a good balance between sharing your experiences and trying to be an expert.  You are not overly opinionated and don’t try to shove your outlook down our throats…. but you have knocked around and explored things a lot and like to share them with us.   Thanks for posting.  Don’t sweat it if some try to give you grief….it happens to anyone who posts online.

  18. Keep up the good work! You are curious and share that with others, you seem balanced to me and when you put yourself in the public eye you will attract criticisms – just press on and do what you do – you have a gift for observation and situational awareness. I hope you continue genuinely sharing through your observations what others enjoy also!

  19. I am retired Henry, i know there is not much income to be had there,i do have 1000 usd a month now ,im learning so much from your videos, i do like the places you show that are best to live, thanks so much my friend.

  20. THANK YOU . I NEVER WROTE TO YOU BEFORE BUT I BEEN WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS FOR A WHILE NOW, AND DONT WORRY, MOST OF THE TIMES NOT EVEN THE NATIVES ARE EXPERTS ON THEIR OWN COUNTRIES NEITHER. YOU ARE LUCKY , AND I AM HEADING TO PHILIPPINES NEXT JULY TO MARRY A BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET FILIPINA AND I FIND YOUR VIDEOS VERY HELPFUL. YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB WITH THE VIDEOS MY FRIEND…BEST REGARDS FROM EL SALVADOR (I HOPE TO SEE YOU AT OUR WEDDING)

  21. good video. keep up your good work. only thing you can do is advise people. it’s up to each person to accept or reject that. just keep doing what you are doing. the other stuff will work out

  22. Henry though you may not be an expert you offer great insight. Of course we all have opinions and then there is fact which can’t be disputed. Keep it coming I enjoy you sharing your experiences.
Crime in urban poverty it’s everywhere I live in California also and I see it often also beautiful beaches.
    Peace

  23. I like that you don’t make a thing out of insulting the Philippines or Filipino culture and people. Some channels focus only on negative issues, makes me wonder if they forget about life at home
