Yes, what ever happened to those things that were here in 1971…sniff kisses, reverse smoking, coins in the ear and that long pinky fingernail? Somebody bring me up to date. :=)

  1. I have seen only one person here in Camarines Norte with betel nuts. We live in the province not in town so you are apt to see some of the old ways exhibited there. Also my asawa showers me with sniff kisses, nice! Like you posts, good topics today Bud,

  2. Interesting Topics for 2021 Bud, I guess every culture has different values of doing things. Great Start To The New Year, keep up the Great Work, Happy New Year Bud And Gloria!

  3. Bud: I enjoyed watching these 6 cultural differences very much! I have only observed 1 of these behaviors. In 1993 I visited a ‘squatters area’ in Iloilo City. I saw an older woman chewing a ‘betel nut’ with stained teeth and she offered me a chew; which I declined. I was in the same area in 2019 and I heard that she had passed away. I have not seen any other Pinoy chewing since. I hope to drink coffee with you in 2021. Neal

  4. Hi Bud, the fingernail thing filtered through Asia originating in China. The reason being in the old days it was a sign of upper class males had got into a position where they didn’t have to do manual labour in the fields anymore.
Not sure on the cigarette thing but it was a party trick when I was young lol.
The beetle nut has its origins in the PNG highlands where they also dip it in lime powder to get a bigger buzz but rots the teeth out far more rapidly.
As for the baby sniff/kiss goes back to the ph aboriginals as not only a pheromone thing but a sign of endearment and acceptance of the baby to the families.
That’s all I could glean from a close Filipina friend.
    Hope it helps πŸ™βœŒοΈπŸ‘

  5. The only thing I remember of the ones you mentioned is the old ladies in Viet Nam with the red teeth from the betel nuts. I only remember seeing it on the ladies. Happy New Year. Best wishes Bob.

  6. To smell your partner gives you an indication if you are a match If you love the scent, you are fine! There are much, much deeper explanations of how scents influence us in our daily lives. Smell a newborn baby, what do you feel inside?

  7. You know ive lived in the Phils sense feb 2003 i ve lived in bacolod and SIPALAY and Manila and Baguio and Angeles’s City jvs never seen anything but sniff kiss
