  1. Hello friend , I have been to Camiguin island ..Its cute …but if you want to retire there , I have 2 questions , how is the crime rate there ? and finally if you need medical attention where do you go ??? You see , you have think about those things..:))))) Sometimes its not simple as it looks…

    1. The crime rate is extremely low on Camiguin. The hospital is very small and basic there and for any serious problems, you’d have to either fly direct to Cebu or get to Cagayan De Oro by ferry and then bus/van.

  2. Kicking out the videos. 985 a month! Talk about a bargain great insights and advise. If i may suggest do a few diet/ health set might be a winner. Thanks

  3. Another-information-packed-video.I-retired-when-I-was-39-and-started-traveling-mostly-in-India-Nepal-and-SEA.Now-at-70-I-am-a-happy-guy.Time-is-all-we-have-use-yours-the-way-that-makes-you-happy!

  4. Great great video my brother thank you great prospective keep the videos coming its truly uplifting and keeps me focused on my Escape to Freedom!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿพ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ

  5. I love the wild mispronunciations. We all know what you meant, and let’s face it, so many expats live in a town for years without ever coming close to pronouncing the name of it correctly. Great info. as always. Camiguin is a great place if you like peace and quiet and the country/provincial life.

    1. @Eric Rausch There are some good ones and a couple of bad ones here. Should be everything needed. Population is about 750,000 so there’s most everything the average expat would need.

    1. I asked our guide how many people in his village (the clam sanctuary) died in the last major typhoon that passed directly over the island and he said zero. “They give us a couple of days warning and we seek higher ground.”

  6. In Canada the average government pension payout is about $600 per month Canadian, in the USA i believe its about $1000 US ( $1300 Canadian) and people wonder why I hate this country I live in , I will leave it.

    1. @Steve Miller Guaranteed , doing a lot of homework. Already know i can not retire in Canada. Ive been doing a lot of central and south America travels, but looking more at Vietnam, Philippines, etc., Ive got a few years yet.

    2. @chris butler

LOL…. no thats not me, born and raised in Ohio, moved to OK back 06.
When are you retiring? when are you thinking of going to philppines?
I now work for the AF, DOD. im less then a year from retirement, but with

this corona shit going on, who knows!!
My wife is actually talking to her family right now on face time.
Do your home work before you pull the trigger on this!

    3. @Steve Miller southern Ontario, near Windsor, just south of Detroit Michigan, the mouldmaking capital of the world, and yes I have skills, right now I am in the pharmaceutical industry.Actually I knew a steve miller from wallaceburg ontario, are you him ?

    4. @ Chris butler, the average Canadians receive $600 in pension + $550 OAS (old age security)+ $350 GIS (guaranteed income supplement)= $ 1,500/month
If you living aboard, youโ€™re only get the pension and OAS money, which is little less than the Americans.

  7. Hello, as an expat that lives in philippines i just want to offer advice, i appreciate your videos,, but, one of the first items that you must do is learn how to pronounce the names of islands and towns,
with mis-pronouncing it dis credits your videos.
example how you say the the โ€œaโ€ ,, use short not long. just a suggestion , but all in all its about enjoying life and you sure are! keep it up!

  8. I’ve been to this island several times, it very beautiful there. It is small, we rode around
the whole island on a scooter in 3 1/2 hours, even stopping at some tourist spots. The language in the southern
Philippines is Bisayan, mostly the same alphabet as the English language, same vowels, BUT different sounds.
You can’t pronounce their words using English.

ย Camiguin is pronounced “come – ME – gun” accent on the “ME.”
The big island to the south, Mindanao, is pronounced “MEND – duh- now” accent on the “MEND”,
which is where I met my wife.
If your healthy, great place to settle down. Good hospitals are far away.
Great video! love it…. I do miss this little island. VERY friendly ppl here!
If all possible, visit here in October, when the lanzones festival is going on.
lanzones is a fruit about the size of a golf ball,,,,,,VERY DELICIOUS!!

    1. That varies per person. For me it is living in present moment awareness where none of my minds thoughts or fears can cause me any permanent pain.

    1. Hi, I’m not a doctor. I can only speak based on experience. I live with two 70 year olds in our house. My mother is a US citizen but chose to live with us here in the Phil because she can’t stand the cold in Michigan. This is their medical expenses: Doctor’s consultation fee range between P350-500. Major surgeries range between P250K-P300K. If you have hypertension, diabetes and mild prostate c, expect to have maintaining cost of medicine between P2,400-P4,000 per month. Hope this gives you idea on your medical expense here.

    2. I just pay as I go now. Later … I’ll probably do what an American I met in Panglao does. I will get insurance just for emergencies but go back to the USA for any major surgeries or whatever … that is free after 65. I am only 59 now.

  9. I live here and this is a very accurate portrayal of conditions here on the island. I believe this may be the best place in the Philippines to live. I agree with the advice given in the video about everything and especially renting versus buying. Great video!

  10. I’ve been here twice and Camiguin is an excellent place for vacation. Yeah, P40,000 is already a luxurious monthly income if you have no kids to support.

  11. if your American you should not rent instead buy a lot and house. You can have a beautiful house for P300,000 or P300,000 divide it to 50 (50 is pesos equivalent to 1 dollar)

    1. Thanks for sharing. I agree with some additional thoughts. You should never buy real estate in a foreign country that you have not lived in for at least one year. Rent a furnished place and wait 18 to 24 months before deciding if you want to live there forever. If you buy in the first 6 months and then decided to leave, you may not have the same liquidity as you would in the USA–it may take longer to sell. Thanks for commenting. Dan

  12. Thanks for making this video. There are of course 2 major costs, electricity and gasoline, which are much higher than in North America. Living up the mountainside where it’s cooler can save a lot on air conditioning. And of course motorbikes are more economical to get around than cars. Keeping your money in your home country can be a smart option, however expect up to a month for a deposit check to be cleared through the local bank. Finally, if you want to include grocery items which are not basics, then you will need to budget trips to CDO.

    1. Just use my data to narrow your search. In the end you have to decide. My comparison is useful because I am comparing places from the same set of eyes.
