  1. When traveling in South America, I learned to avoid salad and ice in my drinks. Nothing like a ceviche and iced drinks that put you in the bathroom for days. Yikes!

  2. I make my own salads at the house. And my own ice. I’ve had some Pina Coladas and Margaritas with ice but haven’t had any problems other than the last place I went to used some pretty cheap-ass Rum.

  3. I really like your videos. One suggestion though, do your videos in different public places so we can listen to you while watching daily life happen behind you. Please take my suggestion for what its worth. Keep the information flowing.

  4. Thanks for the feedback. I try to mix up the backgrounds a bit, but I wasn’t sure if vids done in town (like the one with the mall in the background on “Babies or No Babies?” was distracting or too much background noise. I’ll try to do more in town, although that means no tripod and I have to hold the cam out myself so, not as steady a shot. Ying/Yang.. a trade-off.

  5. Nice to have an Uncle with knowledge. While in Los Banos, Laguna I rented a place and had the 5 gal water provided to me. I was sick for about 3 weeks and couldn’t understand why. Then I opened the container and discovered the guy I paid to get me the water was just filling the jug from the tap. So clean water their is very important and your right about drinking at least 3 L a day min. If you’re peeing clear you doing a good job of irrigating yourself. Most locals drink the water.

  6. Do you have a water heater for the shower? Even with the heat outside cold water from the shower is freezing cold, that’s the creature comfort I missed the most (a warm shower) , also it will be fun if you do a video about eating out if your a vegetarian, you will be amazed how many times you will hear ” yes vegetarian but the pork/chicken makes it taste good”

  7. p.s. No water heater. It could be your pipes were lower in the ground. Here I can actually see the black piping above ground in some areas across the jungle floor, so when the sun is out.. I’ve got hot water. If not, it’s still not very cold, more like lukewarm.

  8. ha!, yes.. I noticed that once I arrived here. I will only pee in public under my own set of rules; only if I really have to and only at night. But many guys here just pee on the main road in the day as people pass by.

  9. LOVE YOUR COMMENTS !! HEY I SHOULD START DRINKING MORE WATER TOO!! FEEL LIKE MY BODY NEEDS IT… ANYWAYS, IM GLAD TO SEE YOU, TO WATCH YOUR VIDEOS. LOVE HOW YOU TALK.¬† I WANTED TO ASK YOU SOMETHING, AS A LATINO AND ESPECIALLY FROM SOUTHERN CALI, WHY DIDNT JUST MOVE TO TIJUANA OR ANY PART OF MEXICO, I KNOW CAUCASIANS MOVE TO THE PHILIPPINES BECAUSE OF THE NAVY, BUT YOU ACTUALLY CHOSE THAT COUNTRY OVER MEXICO. WAS IT THAT PHILIPPINES IS¬† CHEAPER ? OR WAS IT THAT MEXICO HAS A REPUTATION OF KIDNAPINGS AND ILLEGAL DRUGS.

  10. In the good old California Conservation Corps we were expected to be drinking 1 gal a day if not a bit more.  I assume walking to town is about the same sweet as swinging a pick for a few hours and in Hawaii its all about coconuts 5 or 6 a day should be good, plus they give you more of what your body needs to hydrate.

    1. @LifeBeyondTheSea – Philippines¬†I get a large glass of buko juice at a coconut stand in the mall for 25 pesos in Cavite but in¬†manila or Quezon city, it’s like 45 pesos for a large bottle about one litre. ¬†

    2. Water, although coconut (buko juice) is maybe $1 for a big glass.  Tasty stuff, though they do add condensed milk and some kind of syrup at some places.  Others give it to you straight from the coco.

  11. 1 point I would like to add, when drinking alot of water, have a coconut or a sports drink like gatorade at least once a day. Especially during the hot day, that way you keep your electrolytes balanced. When you perspire, you lose salts etc and they need to be replanish.

  12. I get those 5 gallon jugs. There are places over where I live where you can get them delivered too. I pay 100 pesos for 3 – 5 gallon jugs of water.

  13. When i was living in Lapu Lapu i tried drinking the rain water, worse water i ever tasted it was sour/bitter, but as i type this i wonder if it was because the airport was very close.

  14. Henry I am purchasing land in Batangas lemery. Is it cheaper living in province than manila metro areas .I have a few years before I retire and want it all done before retirement. Any feed back helpful. Thanks

    1. +Wil Flores most likely the hardware store. but most people here get their drinking water from a local vendor who does that en masse. about 30 pesos for 5 gallons.

  15. Hi, I’ve been to the Philippines a few times now and always end up with terrible diarrhea. I was drinking the mineral water and ended up drinking distilled water. From what you’re saying this shouldn’t be necessary. My Wife’s family lives in Calbayog (Sumar) and use the mineral water. I’m wondering if my problem came from dishes or vegetables? Any thoughts ?
I’m retired now and would really like to try living in the Philippines for an extended period but need to figure this one out.
BTW Love your sight, keep up the good work

  16. When you land at BIAP the first thing you see is private handing you a 1.5L bottle of water and saying for the millionth time “Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water.” with a look of complete boredom on his face. Sorry but I would rather get shot at than do that job for a year.

  17. Soda is darn near poison as told to me by a friend who was a former rep of a major producer so you’ve made a great decision…Water and low sugar cranberry juice works wonders so far for me…And for the newbies don’t hesitate to take that bottle of water in your back pack and pour it over your head when you’re out walking, running, biking, golfing playing tennis, whatever when here (or anywhere I guess)…Keep hydrated and keep cool…Good video, good info!
