I wanted to share this letter from a friend who has found paradise in Palawan. Dave is a professional musician from the US. He moved permanently to the Philippines recently and the Retiringphilippines.org website was his source for most of the information he needed to make the move.
Hey Charles good to hear from you. Well what happened to me? I guess I just found paradise and I have a hard time leaving it. Palawan is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I have been living down in Narra. Narra is a sleepy little rice town. Peaceful and quiet and full of wonderful, friendly people. Lately I have been in Puerto Princea looking for work playing music as a solo act. Been playing with bands here and there and I am always welcome to jam. Last night I auditioned at the 5 star hotel lounge and was well received by the management and the folks in the room. The manager will talk to the big shots about hiring me today and I am waiting to hear from him now. I did get a gig at a comedy club in town to play between the comics. It pays very little and it isn’t air conditioned. Hot these days. If I get the gig at the hotel I was told that I would travel sometimes to one of their other hotels on the island for month gigs. I would be paid and put up in a room with meals. Treated like a real rock star. I am no better then any of the other fine musicians I have met here. However I am white and I play the harp while playing guitar. People act wild when they hear the harp for some reason. Anyhow I should know within the day if I am on my way to stardom here in paradise or just going back to the rice fields of Narra.
So that is pretty much what has happened here. I hope I can get off this island sometime to visit other places. But everytime I think that I say to myself: “why would I leave paradise?” I am well my friend and having the time of my life. Thanks for thinking about me. Dave
