The shopping malls are opening back up with the transition to GCQ and MGCQ across the Philippines. SM Mall, Ayala Mall, Metro, Robinsons, J Centre Mall, and others have many of their stores opening. Restaurants in Cebu City are still not allowing dine in.
Boom
Looks like ‘Shakeys’, is not open, one of my favourite hangouts whilst the wife is shopping. You’re right Rod, there will be a lot of desperate people around. We purchased personal stun guns for our protection, years ago, and carried them when we were on foot. Bought them at SM. Never had to use them in anger. What would the average price of Desktop Computers be? I was going to bring my current, Apple Desktop, with me when we return, might be worn out by then. (Like me). LOL.
When you showed the Kentucky Fried Chicken store it occurred to me, I wonder how these taste in the Philippines vs the US. So, Rod its up to you too eat at every US restaurant in the Phils and report back your findings……..LOL
Good news.life is on now.
Amazing Philippines ” Check your e-mail ” thanks
Hey rod! Hope all is well, cant wait to get out of this mad city (nyc). Stay safe brother godspeed.
When can I fly in again ? Are the Bars open already ?
Things seem good there. Not so much here. We still have unavoidable checkpoints with the 59/20 thing.
So Rod, this was you in the mall, not your Lady Friend?? They are letting us Senior’s in now, in some places?? I have an expat friend that went to BI at J-center yesterday.. He said he did not have an appointment, and just walked in.. I know Ned in Dumaguete said he was required to have an appointment there, and they were only processing 30 per day.. Thanks for the video.. Bruce
What is the name of this mall?
Hi Rod, I can confirm you can get a Visa extension at JC Mall.I have just come back from there. The rest of the Mall apart from banks and 7/11 are still shut as of 5th June.No need to use a consultant as BI is accepting 10 people at a time.Infact I was surprised it wasnt actually that busy.
tnx for the video Rod. I love the phil but after seeing thailand and comparing those 2 countries it seems that thailand is still more traditional than the phil. philippines seems to change into a very western country and can not see traditional places as much as we used to. but in thailand there are millions of traditional markets next to each other which make it more fun and different from the west. if u could post some videos about the traditional markets that would be great. tnx bro
Good to see places are opening up. When they get the new procedures running at the airports we should be good in about two months hopefully.
The biggest problem we have run into is pharmacy stock. My wife had to go to 5 different places to get all our family’s medicines. Pharmacist there said may be up to 3-4 weeks before stock is replenished fully. May want to check your meds before you run out.
It was interesting to see inside SM – looks much the same as it used to. But I always got lost in there and could never find the stores I was looking for so I tended to stick to Ayala lol.
Wow, really amazed at the intensity on doing their best on controlling health in the malls there. in the Philippines. We in the states can really learn from the Philippines on this situation of seriousness. I salute them for this in the Philippines. If I was there I would feel comfortable to go inside a store there. Now still here in the states, I do not fill safe about it just yet. Thanks for showing this video.
Hi Ron I have a friend who is working at Robison Gallery mall she has to walk two hours to get to work
Thanks for your continued insightful commentary, keeping people informed.
Great that the malls are open. However people under 21 and over 60 are still not allowed out. What kind of freedom is that?
Many expats are over 60 and have some money but are no allowed to spend it.
Hi rod…. really like your videos.I hope to see one soon that tells us that international travel is open for tourist with no quarintine….I am hoping to be able to travel in July but I think I am only dreaming…My birthday and my Filipina girlfriend has same birthday in July….stay safe and healthy
Nice look around video Rod, it’s nice to see things are opening up again, but I guess it will still be some while before it’s anything like the old normal, I think we will all need to adapt as it could be a long time. Thanks for sharing your day.

No temp checks here in the States, no tp,not much hand sanitizer. Plenty of looters though.
metro closed because some employees developed symptoms, later in the day on the 3rd, i was there but the line was too long so i passed. so they closed for cleaning, the next day. lucky me..
Looks like SM city. Need to go to the hardware stores there. SM malls looking in better shape for more stores open than Ayala.
You know Rod it’s good that the malls are open or opening. But on the flip side the majority of people don’t have any money to spend at the malls
Thanks for another pleasant diversion, Rod… the malls are open… at least some of the locals will make a few Pisos…
Thanks, Rod, for another great, informative video.
Hey Rod, Do you have bread shops there, can you get european sourdough bread there ?
