Getting Basic Transportation

Once you are settled into your new apartment and adjusting to your new life here in the Philippines you will sooner or later want some kind of basic transportation other than having to ride a tricycle or taxi. I would not recommend making it a bicycle as you life is more valuable than that, except maybe for very short trips within your subdivision or to nearby shopping. Another choice is a motorcycle, and since the Philippines is primarily a motorcycle world the cars tend to watch out for you  the motorcyclist and seem fairly safe. But remember even a small accident can be life threatening as you have absolutely no protection on the road. However, motorcycles do seem to be king of the road here and all other traffic tend to look out for them.  So this takes us to automobiles. My suggestion is to get a small car due to the many narrow and congested roads, you can get a Multicab here for around $3,000 to $4,000 which is an older vehicle that is held in a Japanese warehouses for a number of years then shipped in parts to factories in the Philippines where they are assembled and painted, most are vehicles that never sold and were just stored in these warehouses for many years. We purchased one in 2004 that was a 1980s Suzuki multivan. They run well and are great on gas. Most multicabs and multivans the full van version has a 3 cylinder 660cc engine. Some newer models have larger engines and even 4 cylinder engines. gasoline here is expensive Diesel is a tad cheaper so most vehicles here have diesel engines. Ford builds a Ford Everest here that  has three rows of seats and a 143 hp diesel engine. But it’s big and hard to navigate the narrow roads here. If one wants to flaunt his riches he will buy one and travel in luxury. These run around 1.4 Million Pesos here. I think we will eventually get one not to be a show off but rather to have a vehicle we can travel around in with our large family of five and two care takers.
