Homeless children of the Philippines

Where did you sleep last night?

.

I dedicate this blog to all the street children of the Philippines. I know that there are many other countries in the world with the same problem, but because this is my back yard (and yours) I felt compelled to put together as much information as I could in hopes that somehow I can make a difference in the life of just (1) child. Even though I hope it could be a millions.

.

For you sir/mam that is sitting there at your desk reading this- there is a child just like this one who would love to have someone come up to her/him  and just say Hi. It doesn’t take much effort in that. But for some reason a large majority (not all) of people in the Philippines feel as though its best to ignore them. Whenever my wife and i happen to be in town we always make an effort to buy them something to eat. I wish I could do more. I really really do. For it is our dream that one day we can change the hearts of the government , the local churches, and the schools.

.

Yet its also important that the Philippines and its citizens be educated as well about how to handle this situation. This means that 3 groups of people to be shown how they can make a difference.

.

The Church’s responsability- Even in the beginning when Jesus was making himself known, children were treated unjustly in the eyes of God at the very hands of His disciples. The children were trying to get to Jesus and the disciples were trying to silence them. But Jesus when he found out said…

.

Mark 10:14 NIV

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them ” Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

.

1 .Psalm 127:3-5 NIV
Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

.

2 .Mark 10:14 NIV
When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them ” Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

.

3. Proverbs 22:6 NIV
Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.

.

4. Deuteronomy 11:19 NIV
Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

I truly believe that if the people of the Philippines will come together on this most important of issues that God will bless this nation. Lets look at what the Bible says about children.

.

This pic made me cry...a long time!!!

Matthew 18:10 NIV
See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

.

We can all make a difference in the life of a child. I will continue to add as much information on this blog about who is involved in feeding and clothing these innocent children. As well as information on web site relating to the homeless children of the philippines. There is a great sadness at seeing these kids sleep on the street. I think back to when I was a a kid just like them at one time. I knew nothing of violence, drugs, stealing, beatings, rapes, and even death at that age. No child should see this. No child should ever experience it.

.

Street Children in the Philippines is a significant problem. According to the 1998 report, entitled “Situation of the Youth in the Philippines,” there are about 1.5 million street children in the Philippines. Everyday, a street child is seen walking along the streets, looking for a place to stay.

.

According to the Stairway foundation there are three different categories of street children: children on the streets, children of the streets and completely abandoned children.

.

“Children on the streets” make up approximately 75% of the street children in the Philippines. These children work on the streets but do not live there, having a home to return to after working. Some of them even continue to attend school while working long hours on the streets.

.

In contrast, “Children of the street” on the other hand make their homes on the street. They make up 25%-30% of the street children in the Philippines. These children often create a sort of family among fellow street children. Some of them still have family ties, but do not visit them and some even see these ties as bad.

.

“Completely abandoned children” have no family ties and are entirely on their own for physical and psychological survival. They make up about 5%-10% of the street children in the Philippines.

.

Thank you Lord for this food we are about to eat.

Many street children were in danger of summary execution during the Marcos Government. [6] In the Philippines the most blatant form of violence against children is summary execution. In Davao City, 39 children in conflict with the law have been killed by the vigilante groups since 2001. Most of them were killed after being released from police detention cells.

.

Human rights groups said the killings have become an unwritten government policy to deal with crime, largely because of an ineffective criminal justice system and the tendency of the authorities to take shortcuts in the administration of justice. The execution-style killings are openly endorsed by local officials, strengthening the long-running suspicion that the death squads were formed by the government.

.

You can buy and orange for 5ph and piece of bread for the same. A small bottle of water cost 10ph. Whenever you plan on going some where within the philippines you can carry these items in a bag. It all starts with just 1 child. Until the Local church, and the Philippine governments starts doing their job we can make a difference in at least 1 child per family. If there are 95 million people living in the philippines and 1 million homeless children on the streets. There are planty of us that can afford 20phs a day.
